En Clase:
Today we began with a game, Juego de dados, the dice game.  This had us practicing conjugation with our vocabulary.

We also listened to a song, Eres para mi, which demonstrated the use of a present tense. 

Lastly, we began learning about how to ask and answer questions usingthe present tense.  I handed out a worksheet that helps explain this concept.  Tomorrow we will finish this. 

Tarea:
For homework, please complete your notecard for SLC’s.  Also, study your vocab list for the assessment on Friday.

En Clase:

Today we started with the game charades to practice los pasatiempos y los deportes.  Afterwards we began reading chapter 1 of Pobre Ana.  We read in pairs and followed along with comprehension questions.  We made it about halfway through the first chapter and we will continue where we left off on Thursday. 
We also worked on preparing for SLC’s on Thursday.  You will need to have the following information prepared and ready to put on a notecard by tomorrow.

En clase:
Today I passed back assignments and we tracked our quizzes on el progresso de habilidades.  I also answered questions about the homework from Friday over los pasatiempos y los deportes.  This was on the back side of the vocab list. 

Later we practiced more conjugation and I passed out a guide to helpyou with more uses of the present tense.  These uses include:
·         How to make a sentence negative in the present tense.
·         How to conjugate when there are two verbs in a row. 

Tarea:
For homework there is a worksheet to practice the concepts we learned in class today.

En clase:

Today we played “Pasar el papel” to review for the assessment today over el tiempo y las estaciones. If you missed this assessment you will need to come in on Tuesday during office hours to take it. After the assessment we worked on our libritos, the practice books for our final project. We will have time to finish up the introduction page on Monday.

Tarea:

We have a new vocabulary list on los pasatiempos y los deportes (hobbies and sports). On the back of the vocab list is a homework assignment that has you conjugate the new vocabulary in the present tense.

En Clase:
 
Today we reviewed for the assessment tomorrow over el tiempo y lasestaciones. 

Later we did an activity that had us practicing reading techniques to help understand text in Spanish.  This was to help us with a short novel we will be reading in class for the rest of the semester called, “Pobre Ana”.  We will be reading this novel in class so I will not be giving you a copy to take home.  We only read the first page in class today and there is no homework for the reading.

Today we talked about the common elements found in children’s stories.  We did this to get an idea of what kinds of things we can incorporate in our own projects.  Here is a list of questions wethought about as well as a list of characteristics we decided on as a class.   

 

Later we began to create our own booklets that we will use as a template for the final product.  We assembled booklets out of computer paper and we will be writing in these later this week to practice the topics we are studying in class.   Here is adescription of what we will be doing with these practice booklets. 

 

Tomorrow, don’t forget to turn in your country investigation worksheet.  Also, remember Friday we will have an assessment over weather vocab and seasons.

En clase:
Today we worked on an activity in class to practice cities in Latin America and the weather.  Later we learned how to say the date in Spanish.  This was an in class activity where we asked other classmates their birthdays and wrote the responses in Spanish. 

Tarea:
On the bottom of this sheet is the homework for tonight.  Look on a calendar to find the date for the holidays listed. 
Remember also to do the Investigación de tu país for Thursdays.

En Clase:

Today we listened to a song about the about the seasons to practice our new vocabulary.  Afterwards we created a story board for the movie, “The Devil’s Miner”, and wrote sentences to describe our illustrations.  You can find thisactivity by clicking here.

I passed out a list of Latin American countries and a map of Latin America.  You will need to look up the capitals of these countries and also research two interesting facts about the countries.  On the map, number the countries on the list and write the corresponding numbers in the map.  Turn this in on Monday.

Later we talked about conjugation of –er and –ir verbs.  In class we talked about the similarities and differences by working on this sheet.  We also did some practice problems in class.

Today we started with a lesson over the present tense of ar verbs, or verbs ending in ar.  Click here to seethe lecture handout and practice problems.

We talked about some grammar basics in order to get us set up for talking about present tense conjugations tomorrow.  We filled out a worksheet in class topractice the parts of speech.

Viernes-Friday 5th

We took the quiz over Los adjetivos, Ser, and subject pronouns.  If you were not in class on Friday you will have to take the quiz on Tuesday during SIG or after school. 

We also had half the period to work El arbol genealogico.  I will be giving you some time to work on this on Monday before you turn it in at the end of the period.  I will not be able to help you with any printing functions so make sure you plan ahead. 

I have another project reubric that helps explain the elements I will be looking for in your project.

En Clase:

Today we did a starter to practice for the assessment on Friday over adjectives, ser, and subject pronouns.  The rest of the period you had time in class to work on your family trees. 

Tarea:

Assessment 5 Tomorrow!!  It will cover Ser, los adjetivos, y los pronombres.
I passed out a study guide to help prepare for the assessment.  Other helpful materials to study are the adjectives vocabulary list, the ser lecture handout, and the subject pronouns lecture handout.   

“El árbol genealógico”

We had the rest of the period to work on “El árbol genealógico” due Monday, October 8th.  If you need to find additional adjectives or family members go to www.wordreference.com .  I passed out an organizer on Wednesday to help write about your family members.  See below for the project description or click here for a downloadable version. 

El árbol genealógic
Mini Project Description:
This is a mini project in which you will graphically represent your family relationships and the characteristics of your family members in a family tree.  You will demonstrate your knowledge of family vocabulary, adjectives, and the verbs ser and tener as well.  You are encouraged to discover new adjectives that are unique to your family or to find vocabulary words that describe the professions of some of your family members.  Below are the categories on which you will be graded:

o  Includes the title, "Árbol genealógico de …(your name)" at the top.
o  Is on time (para el lunes, 8 de octubre)
o  Includes entries (name and relationship to you) for at least 3 generations and 8 people/pets (1 of these people should be you!).
o  Each family member is named, and has an age.
o  Each person is given a relationship to another family member.
o  Each person has at least 2 adjectives describing them using ser . 
o  The information is either typed or written in very neat handwriting.
o  Information is grammatically correct, with subject-adjective agreement & correct spelling.
o  The project is illustrated, refined, and the tree is neatly laid out so that relationships can easily be understood.

  • We corrected the SER and adjectives portion of the homework I assigned yesterday in class.  We will go over the TENER side on Thursday. 
  • If you were not here today you will need to take Assessment 4: La familia, tomorrow during SIG or office hours.

  • I assigned a REQUIRED assignment, El árbol genealógico, due Monday, October, 8th.  You have a worksheet to help you organize your family and the characteristics of each family member.  We will have time to work on this in class tomorrow.

Today we finished the activity of describing the cartoon characters using adjectives and ser.  We learned a new verb, TENER-to have.  We completed an in-class activity that describes how to use tener.
